If you want to be the best leader you can be, you can’t afford to neglect setting SMART goals. Whilst it might be too late to wish people a happy new year, or to set new year’s resolutions, it's not too late to establish your own and your team’s goals for the year ahead.
One of the biggest mistakes a leader can make (right up there with not delivering feedback properly and poor decision making) is what is known as shifting the goalposts.
Without clearly defined expectations, your team members may flounder if they're unsure where the bar has been set and where their contribution lies in the scheme of things.
